Dr. Bruce Beaton
Yukon
“Dr. Bruce Beaton is a retired community physician in Whitehorse, Yukon with over 30 years of experience in the North. He was one of the first graduates of the family practice residency program at the University of British Columbia in 1975. After graduation, he moved to the Yukon for what he describes as a “northern experience” and fell in love with the territory and its remoteness, which allowed him the freedom to practice as a full-breadth primary care physician.
Before retiring three years ago, Dr. Beaton worked at outpost clinics in most Yukon communities and was an itinerant physician in the remote community of Old Crow, north of the Arctic Circle, for 15 years. For many years, he used his own airplane to commute to these isolated communities.
Dr. Beaton is currently chair of the Yukon Medical Council and sits on the Medical Council of Canada. He served over twenty years on the executive of the Yukon Medical Association and represented the YMA within the Canadian Medical Association for almost a decade.” |
