Dr. Bruce Beaton is a retired community physician in Whitehorse, Yukon, with over 30 years' experience in the north. Dr. Beaton is currently chair of the Yukon Medical Council and sits on the Medical Council of Canada. He served over twenty years on the executive of the Yukon Medical Association and represented the YMA within the Canadian Medical Association for almost a decade. Before retiring three years ago, Dr. Beaton worked at outpost clinics in most Yukon communities and was an itinerant physician in the remote community of Old Crow, north of the Arctic Circle, for 15 years. He used his own airplane to commute to these isolated communities. Dr. Beaton earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He completed his MD at the University of California at Davis, and was one of the first graduates of the family practice residency program at the University of British Columbia in 1975.
